“Speaking for myself, translation is an ideal occupation; it allows me to settle comfortably into my liminal existence. And to me, this liminal existence seems the ideal place from which to translate.”

A few months ago, 10/11 founder and star translator Sandra Hetzl published a deeply moving essay for Toledo on who she is and why she translates; a coming-out of sorts, you might call it. The essay was subsequently broadcast on German radio, and is now finally available in English translation.
