Dreams of Ayn Ara to be published by Feminist Press in 2026
10/11 are delighted that World English rights to Sara Abou Ghazal’s novel Dreams of Ayn Ara, in Katharine Halls’s translation, have been acquired by the Feminist Press.
A striking, innovative debut, Dreams of Ayn Ara tells the story of the Abu Sukkar family, refugees from a fictional village in the Galilee who end up in Shatila, Lebanon. Each chapter is told from the perspective of a different family member as they grapple with the existential inescapability of their Palestinian-ness.
Not so much a novel about the Nakba as a dizzying conjuring-up of the spatio-temporal rupture experienced by its victims, Dreams of Ayn Ara vividly illustrates that the Nakba was not simply a series of acts of violence but a brutal foreclosure of existential possibilities. As Abou Ghazal herself explains, “Time is central to us as Palestinians because the Nakba did not only steal our land and our homes but our future.”
Dreams of Ayn Ara will appear in 2026.
